By Kissimmee Living ·

Kissimmee residents can sign up for more than one official text service. Some are run by the City of Kissimmee and one is run by Osceola County. Each has its own keyword, and two of them share the same number. This guide explains what each service is, how to join and who to contact for help. For more preparedness information, visit the site's prepare page.

City of Kissimmee emergency text messages

Residents can sign up for City of Kissimmee emergency text messages by texting KISSIMMEE to 888777. The City explains the service on its Emergency Notification System page.

The City's alert system allows sign-up for alerts at up to five locations and registration of up to eight contacts. In plain terms, the system is not limited to a single phone number tied to a single address. A resident can set up alerts for up to five different places and register up to eight contacts.

The City's page is the best place to read about how the system works, since it is the official source for this service.

Alert Osceola

Osceola County runs its own service, called Alert Osceola. To sign up, text AlertOsceola to 888777. The County describes the service on its Alert Osceola page.

Notice that the number is the same as the City's emergency text number, 888777, but the keyword is different. The City's keyword is KISSIMMEE and the County's keyword is AlertOsceola. Texting the right word to the number is what joins the right service.

If you need help with Alert Osceola sign-up, email EMDO@osceola.org.

Text My Gov from the City

The City of Kissimmee also offers a Text My Gov service. It sends one-way event and alert updates to residents who text KPREVENTS to 91896. The City describes it on its Text My Gov page.

The service is one-way, which means it sends updates to you. It is a different service from the emergency text messages above and it uses a different number, 91896, and a different keyword.

All three sign-ups at a glance

  • City of Kissimmee emergency text messages: text KISSIMMEE to 888777
  • Alert Osceola: text AlertOsceola to 888777
  • City of Kissimmee Text My Gov: text KPREVENTS to 91896

How to sign up

  1. Decide which services you want. The City and the County run separate services, so signing up for one does not mean you have joined the others.
  2. Open the text messaging app on your phone.
  3. Send the keyword exactly as written above to the matching number.
  4. If you run into trouble with Alert Osceola, email EMDO@osceola.org.
  5. For questions about the City's emergency notification system, use the contact listed at the end of this guide.

Things to keep in mind

The keywords are written differently by each agency: KISSIMMEE and KPREVENTS appear in capital letters on the City's pages, while the County writes AlertOsceola as one word with two capital letters. Copy them as shown.

Because the City's alert system allows up to eight contacts, a resident can think about who else should receive alerts, such as another member of the household. The City's page is the place to confirm how to add them.

The verified facts for this guide cover how to sign up and who to contact. They do not describe what types of messages each service sends or how often, so check the City and County pages linked above for those details.
